Wi-Fi Aliance announced a new standard for wireless communications network that allows two electronic devices directly connected to each other peer to peer without going through the access point or a router. Specification of this technology will become a direct rival to Bluetooth.

Wi-Fi Direct Technology, connect without router.

Wi-Fi Direct is a new leap in the industry. The Wi-Fi users in the world will benefit from a single technology solution for exchanging and sharing content applications quickly and easily between different devices.

Its transfer speeds as fast as Wi-Fi access that is up to 250 Mbps. Devices that already support Wi-Fi Direct will be able to notify its status to another device and check the status of other devices such as Bluetooth. Another advantage, Wi-Fi Direct can be connected more than one pair of devices. In fact, other than that, do not have two devices equipped with Wi-Fi Direct to connect peer to peer.

For security issues, Wi-Fi Direct will support WPA2 (Wi-Fi Protected Access 2) and AES encryption. Wi-Fi Alliance plans to complete the standard certification process Wi-Fi Direct technology from mid-2010.
